A new vision: Blending Landscape & Love
Inspiration can strike in the quietest moments.
A color palette, a lighting shift, a composition that lingers in your mind long after you’ve seen it. That’s what happened to me recently when I came across a beautiful piece by another incredibly talented artist—one that wove together the stillness and beauty of nature. This piece inspired me to want to blend this with my drawings of heartfelt moments together and see what I can create.
I have always been inspired by landscape art. It stirs something deep in my soul but I have not that my skills were good enough to achieve it.
For years, I’ve focused on capturing soulful moments between animals: the warmth between a mother and cub, the silent loyalty of mated pairs, the innocent joy of siblings at play. But this time, a new idea began to form—what if I placed those moments within a full landscape scene? What if I surrounded those tender interactions with the soft grandeur of nature itself?
It sparked something deep in me; when I seen this art piece that I felt compelled to try. So I went looking through photo references of bears that I love (I so easily get lost down the rabbit hole with this one; I have so many references that inspire me that I want to do; I am set for years! And yet I still look for more) I found the bears I wanted to draw; and then I played in photoshop to create different styles of backgrounds (a collaboration of about 6 different photos) and I have created a photo reference to use as a guideline (I usually improvise when I’m drawing; follow my intuition for what needs to go where)
And so this new drawing began.
I’m envisioning a scene where the landscape isn’t just a background—it’s part of the feeling. Sunrises gently over the mountains, sun reflecting off the tree tops, the trees reflecting in the lake, and the mama bear and her cub walking along the beach. A beautiful scene captured in pencil
It’s a moment of peace. Of presence. Of wild love, nestled gently into the rhythm of the earth.
This piece will take time. It’s more complex than anything I’ve done before—a blend of emotion and environment. But I’m excited. It feels like a natural evolution of my work. A way to expand the story while staying rooted in the same values: soulful connection, warmth, and love.
As I sketch and build each layer, I’m reminded of how much the natural world offers us—stillness, healing, inspiration—and how art can help us see those gifts more clearly.
I can’t wait to share more as this piece unfolds.
It’s new, it’s challenging, and it’s exactly where my heart wants to go.
With heart,
Nancy
